Erectile dysfunction is just one of a growing number of drugs that men are facing that can help improve their sexual performance. Viagra and other erectile dysfunction drugs also have the potential to offer a solution to the problem, according to an article published Tuesday in The New York Times.

Researchers found that men taking the drug had reduced erections and improved their sexual performance.
“This study provides important new evidence that men can benefit from the benefits of this drug,” said Dr. Steven Nissen, a urologist at New York University Langone Medical Center in New York City.
The drugs may also help improve erectile function, though Nissen is not opposed to using these drugs for sexual dysfunction, which is more common in younger men.
A study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine in June found that men taking Viagra for erectile dysfunction saw a reduction in sexual desire.
Other studies found that Viagra did not increase the risk of heart attack or stroke.
Viagra also does not increase sexual desire, but it does have an effect on ejaculation, Nissen said.
“It’s a great drug that is often referred to as an aphrodisiac,” he said.
Viagra, which is produced by Pfizer, is available without prescription. It’s only available by prescription in New York City and New Orleans, where it was approved for use in 1998.
The Food and Drug Administration has approved Viagra for use in men over the age of 40, but the drug has not been approved for use in women.
Other studies have shown that Viagra can improve erectile function in men over the age of 60, although only one in six men over 40 has reported improvements in their sexual function.
A 2004 review of the drug’s clinical uses and potential side effects showed that some men taking it may experience a worsening of sexual function, though not everyone experiences it.
Nissen said that Viagra’s benefits may outweigh its risks, though he cautioned that more research is needed.
Viagra is available as a generic drug, but the FDA has not approved it for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, Nissen said.
